NIGERIANS DO NOT KNOW THE MEANING OF SCHOOLING
The following conversation was between a child and the parents not quite long in ondo state Nigeria.
DAD: son, hope you are reading well so as to gain admission into the university of technology?
SON: Yes, but that I would rather love to fight crimes.
MUM: shut up son. We want you to have a well paid job and live a bouyant life. How many crime fighters are rich?
The above conversation shows that Nigerians study courses that would fetch money. This is an abuse to education.
WHAT IS A SCHOOL?
Oxford advanced learners dictionary defines school as a place to be educated. It further explains it as a place to gain knowledge.
WHY ARE THERE SCHOOLS?
Schools are aimed at providing knowledge needed as touching any subject or matter in life. It is a place to build yourself to be pruned and branded in a field of study and an aspect of life. There are various types like the schools of music,the schools of dance, the school of law among others.
WHAT TO DO BEFORE SCHOOLING
After the primary stage of school, one must have developed interest in a field or the other .patents should rather concern thselves with the question.." In what capacity do you want to affect life and make the world a better place?"
The child's intrest should be put into consideration rather than the level of income or the level of recognition gained by a profession. One who wants to stop the spread of diseases needs the knowledge of medicine and one who wants to fight crimes need the knowledge of the defence academy. This also applies to all other wish and the corresponding school of knowledge.
WHAT IS THE ESSENCE?
In one of my earlier write up I asked why Nigerian youths are jobless. This is one of the reasons. When too many people troop to a profession it looses value,quality and interest. Moreover if every Nigerian is allowed to follow his or her passion I bet you that Nigeria would be a better place. New ideas,inventions and developments would emerge. When people follow their passion, establishment would be quicker,easier and earlier even without " Government work"
Finally i would like to add. Do not indulge in something because it worked for a friend or someone else. Do what you know how to do best and trust me, the sky is your starting point.
